A Staffordshire man has been deported from Portugal after trouble at the Euro 2004 football championships.
Alan John Walker, from Leek, was arrested in the Portuguese capital Lisbon on Saturday after a Frenchman was assaulted.
Walker appeared in court on Sunday and received a 12-month sentence, suspended for three years, and a 2000 Euro fine.
The 29-year-old was sent back to the UK and has been banned from returning to Portugal for the next twelve months.
Previous order
It is believed Walker is the first English person to appear before the courts at this summer's football championships.
Staffordshire Police said that Walker was charged with a count of assault.
A Home Office spokesman said: "We can confirm that one man was arrested on Saturday, later appeared at court and was removed from the country."
Walker, a Stoke City supporter, was given a three-year banning order in November 2000 after invading the pitch at Wigan's JJB Stadium during a Stoke City match.
This had expired prior to Euro 2004.
A police spokesman said: "We will now be seeking a new banning order once full details of the case are
provided to us."
