Boost to life savers team
A team of volunteer rural life savers is to be expanded in Staffordshire.

Ambulance service bosses want to train more people living in remote areas in first aid and resuscitation, to cut the number of deaths.

The Community First Responder scheme was set up four years ago in the Staffordshire moorlands to improve response times in the countryside.

Following its success a meeting on Tuesday will discuss setting up another group in Loggerheads.

It is hoped the volunteers could reach more time-critical medical emergencies such as cardiac arrests.

Recruits are able to use defibrillators and give other treatment until professional paramedics arrive.
