Sell off plan for police base
Staffordshire police are hoping to raise millions of pounds by selling off part of their headquarters for housing.

The force has unveiled plans to dispose of part of the site at Baswich, which would also involve some of its operations being moved to another part of the town.

Staffordshire police has been at its Baswich site since the early 1950s.

A force spokesman said the money it hopes to raise by selling off part of the land for housing would help pay for new buildings at its Weston Road complex and other building improvements.

Under the plan the chief constable and his executive team would remain at police headquarters along with key administration, IT and training personnel.

However some operational staff would be relocated to Weston Road.

An outline planning application has gone to Stafford Borough Council although the police authority is stressing the plan is still in its infancy.
