Toe wars afoot
Alan "Nasty" Nash is also a chicken whisperer
A sporting world champion will be crowned in Staffordshire this weekend as the top names in toe wrestling battle for supremacy.

The pastime is similar to arm wrestling, with the participants trying to force the other into submission by means of superior toe strength.

The current champion, Alan "Nasty" Nash, from Stoke-on-Trent, is the hot favourite to win this year's crown.

Mr Nash - once voted the second most eccentric man in Britain - has been exercising for the contest by gripping his toes around a broom handle.

'The knee-popper'

He told BBC Midlands Today that he plans to blow the opposition away.

"Over the winter I've learnt a couple of new moves and I've got a new one just for this year for one person.

"It's the "knee-popper". It's guaranteed, if you don't go with the move, your knee pops."

The coveted title will be fought for at the Olde Royal Oak Inn in Wetton, Staffordshire, on Saturday.
