Workshop blaze ignites fireworks

A car breaker's workshop in a Kent village has been severely damaged in a blaze that spread to a shed used to store fireworks.

At its height, about 40 firefighters were called to the blaze in Sheppey Way, Bobbing near Sittingbourne.

Crews from Kent Fire and Rescue Service were forced to withdraw when flames spread towards a neighbouring garden shed, setting off the fireworks.

A building containing 200 tyres was severely damaged by the fire.

A spokesperson for the fire service said the blaze was extinguished shortly before 1800 BST.

The garden shed and fencing were completely destroyed.
