A policewoman from West Sussex has died in a sea scooter accident while on holiday in Kenya.

Pc Sally Roberts, 28, from Worthing, died on Saturday while on holiday with boyfriend Andrew Freeman in Mombasa.

Ms Roberts worked for the Metropolitan Police's Safer Neighbourhood team in Crystal Palace, south London.

"The team has lost more than a colleague - Sally was a friend, a member of the family I admired enormously," said Sgt Spence Ogilvie.

'People's person'

"She did this job for the right reasons, to help people and make the community she served better, and she put her heart into it.

"Sally was the ultimate people's person.

"She built strong community ties and gained the trust and respect of the local community - she will be missed."

Ms Roberts's parents, Jackie and Gordon Roberts, have flown to Kenya with a Met Police inspector.

The Foreign Office said it was keeping in contact with the Roberts family.
