A mother of five-month-old triplets and a three-year-old son has arrived safely in Cyprus as a priority case in the evacuation of Britons from Lebanon.

Elise Mazegi, 32, from Brighton in East Sussex, sailed for 11 hours from Beirut on board HMS Gloucester.

After disembarking on Wednesday, she told how Yasmin, Joey, Isabella and toddler Dany slept through Israeli air strikes on the Lebanese capital.

"I'm looking forward to going back to Brighton, I want to go home," she said.

Mrs Mazegi was visiting her sister in Lebanon last autumn when she found out she was pregnant.

She was advised not to travel and gave birth to the triplets a month prematurely on 15 February.

'Long trip'

Her businessman husband, Fadi, 36, has still not seen his new babies.

Speaking from Brussels, Mr Mazegi said he would return to the UK on Wednesday to be reunited with his wife.

"When I realised they were safe in Cyprus I just felt so relieved," he said.

"I have spoken to my wife and she is fine. I just can't wait to see them all."

Mrs Mazegi said she had seen Israeli bombers flying over her sister's home in a Beirut suburb.

"I thought it would only be a few days but it was getting worse and I didn't know what to do.

"The trip was long but it was OK, the babies slept most of the time," Mrs Mazegi said after arriving in Cyprus.
