The friend and wife of an East Sussex man who went missing in Senegal are flying to Africa to try to find him.
William West had been on holiday with his wife for nearly a month
William West, 76, of St Helen's Park in Hastings, had been with his wife Kate, 26, at a holiday home in The Gambia.
The couple had been on a day trip to Senegal when he disappeared after going into a shop on his own on 3 July.
Mrs West and family friend David Jenkins fly from Gatwick on Tuesday, and plan to register Mr West as officially missing on their arrival.
Mr Jenkins said they would be speaking to the Gambian police and the British Embassy as part of their efforts to find him.
He described Mr West's disappearance as "bizarre and out of character".
"He is a very gregarious person and I've no reason to believe he'd voluntarily disappear.
"Though he is in his 70s he is a very sprightly person," Mr Jenkins added.
Sussex Police are also working with international police agencies to try to establish what happened to Mr West.
He and his wife had been holidaying in Africa for almost a month.
