Technology to help older people

Older people are to be offered devices to keep them safe
Nearly £1m is to be spent on technology so that older people can stay in their own homes and avoid hospital admission.

A £922,000 grant from the Department of Health will be spent on "telecare" systems for people in East Sussex.

The systems include home sensors and alarms linked via telephone lines to community alarm centres.

Councillor Bill Bentley said: "While telecare is not right for everyone, it can help some people live independently in their own homes."

He said equipment items also included fall detectors, wandering sensors, and bed and chair occupancy sensors.

Equipment is being made available from this autumn.
