A body found in a Spanish resort is thought to be that of a man who went missing after visiting a gay nightclub.
Mr Hoare was last seen at the Organics nightclub in Sitges, Spain
Sussex Police said identification would take place when Kevin Hoare's family fly to Barcelona. Officers are liaising with Spanish authorities on the case.
The 39-year-old Bognor man went missing on 11 May while on holiday and failed to return to Gatwick two days later.
Mr Hoare had gone to a club in Sitges with friends and then decided to stay into the early hours after they left.
Officers said the body was found in the resort of Sitges on Tuesday, but were unable to say where or how the discovery was made.
A post-mortem examination took place on Wednesday but police said on Thursday that the cause of death had not yet been disclosed.
Ch Insp Brian Bracher said: "This is terrible news for the family.
"Our thoughts and sympathies are with them at this very difficult time.
"There is currently very little further information.
"We are continuing to liaise with the Spanish authorities and the British Consulate so we can establish exactly what happened to Kevin on the night he disappeared."
Witnesses still sought
He added a police family liaison officer would accompany Mr Hoare's family to Spain for the identification process.
At an appeal for information on Wednesday, police said the production worker had not used his mobile phone or his bank account since he disappeared.
Police said information was limited but developments were being monitored "hour-by-hour" and officers were still seeking witnesses.
On the night he disappeared, Mr Hoare went to dinner with two friends before the three went to the Organics Nightclub.
They left him there in the early hours when he said he wanted to stay.
