Cliff fall couple 'only bruised'
Beachy Head lighthouse
The couple were said to have been sightseeing at Beachy Head
A couple have survived a fall after the ground gave way underneath them at Beachy Head cliffs, near Eastbourne, in East Sussex.

Two coastguard rescue teams were called out on Sunday to winch the man and woman back to safety.

A spokesman said it appeared the ground at the cliff edge had crumbled, but added the couple did not fall far because it was not a sheer drop.

The only injury was a bruised ankle suffered by the man.

Coastguard teams from Eastbourne and Birling Gap, co-ordinated by colleagues in Dover, had to bring in air support to locate the woman.
