Level crossing crash victim named

An inquest has been opened and adjourned into the death of a female motorist whose car was hit by a train at a level crossing in East Sussex.

The dead woman has been identified as Alison Jane McCloskey, 37, of Polegate.

Her Mini Cooper was struck on the unmanned crossing at Wilmington, near Eastbourne, on Thursday morning.

Sussex Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and that the coroner's inquiries were continuing.

Ms McCloskey's vehicle was dragged along the track for more than 100 yards.

She suffered serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

British Transport Police has been leading the investigation into the woman's death.
