University finds Legionnaires bug
Sussex University
About 250 students are being given alternative washing facilities
The water supply at Sussex University is being thoroughly cleaned after the bacteria that causes Legionnaires disease was discovered in the system.

The bacteria was found in the hot water system at three accommodation blocks on the Brighton campus in routine tests.

Students are being given alternative washing facilities for the next few days as the treatment takes 48 hours.

The university stressed the level of bacteria found would not create any risk to human health.

However, students have been told of the symptoms in an attempt to reassure them.

In a statement, the university emphasised the risks posed to members of the campus community are "actually very low, and the systems are in place to ensure safety".

Drinking water has been unaffected.
