Monica Peters
Police believe Monica Peters was killed between 1 and 4 January
An 80-year-old man has appeared in court charged with the murder of his wife at their East Sussex home.

Frank Peters, of Alma Terrace, St Leonards, appeared before Hastings Magistrates Court on Friday.

Mr Peters is charged with murdering his wife Monica, 72, some time between 1 and 4 January.

Her body was discovered at their home on Wednesday. Mr Peters was remanded in custody to appear at Lewes Crown Court on 20 January.

Love and support

Outside court, the couple's son and daughter pledged their "love and support" to their father "in his time of need".

A statement by Robin Peters and his sister Jane Pell said: "We, as a family, feel it is important that we give Dad all the love and support that has always been given.

"This will never be taken away regardless of the outcome of any forthcoming trial.

"We understand and support the efforts by the police that have been made for our Dad to be placed in a protective environment for his own safety and protection."
