Car thieves spray gas at motorist
A 40,000 car has been stolen by robbers in Surrey who sprayed a noxious gas into the face of the woman driver.

The victim was sitting in the grey Range Rover Vogue in the car park of Morrisons supermarket in Oxted when the thieves struck on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said one of two men opened the door and sprayed either CS gas or pepper spray into her eyes.

He dragged her from the vehicle before driving off in it. A second man ran off and followed in a small grey car.

'Erratic driving'

The suspect who stole the car was described as being about 5ft 7in tall, of a slim build and aged 16 to 17 years old. He was wearing a dark coloured hoody and black gloves.

The second male was of a similar height and age and was wearing a dark coloured parka-style jacket with grey fur around the edges.

The victim, a 40-year-old local woman, was taken to East Surrey Hospital for treatment to her eyes.

Det Supt Andrea Richards said she was keen to hear from any witnesses who saw either of the cars being driven erratically following the theft, which happened at about 1730 GMT.

She added that it was possible that the suspects had been in the vicinity of the car park for some time before the robbery took place.
