Wildlife rescuers spent New Year's Eve rescuing an injured deer in Uckfield.

Sussex Horse Rescue found the female fallow deer in a lane near the horse sanctuary at 1745 GMT on Saturday.

The deer was taken to a veterinary clinic and several hours of treatment and x-rays led to the deer being put on a drip and it was given a neck support.

East Sussex Wildlife Rescue spokesman Trevor Weeks said it is thought the deer panicked and injured itself while being chased by a dog off a lead.

He said: "Apparently there were several deer in the lane being chased.

"We think this deer panicked, ran into a fence and knocked itself out."

Mr Weeks said: "The deer was very placid and quite easy to handle."

He said the animal was taken back to Sussex Horse Rescue where it spent the night on a drip with heat pads to keep it warm in an isolation stable.
