Prader-Willi man 'may lose legs'
Chris Leppard
Chris Leppard has lost 5st through daily exercise and careful dieting
A man whose medical condition left him weighing 33st (210kg) has been told by doctors he could die if he does not have both his legs amputated.

Chris Leppard, 24, from Hastings, East Sussex, has the incurable Prader-Willi syndrome, which drives him to over eat.

Since March he has lost more than 5st (32kg) after embarking on a strict diet and exercise routine.

However, he has now learnt that because of his weight the blood in his swollen legs is not circulating properly.

It means that he can no longer go to gym, and will find it harder to lose any more weight.

Mr Leppard said he was now in a vicious circle.

"I'm trying to lose the weight by not doing the exercise because my legs won't let me do it," he explained.

In February he was sectioned under the Mental Heath Act despite the fact that he has a physical rather than mental disorder.

He was taken to the Eastbourne Clinic but released after being assessed at a specialist eating disorder unit.
