Three die as lorry and car crash
Three people have been killed and two others injured in a crash in Surrey involving a lorry and a car.

It is thought the lorry, which was being driven south on the A3, hit the central reservation and collided with the car travelling the other way.

All three of those who died were in the car. The lorry driver and a fourth occupant of the car were taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The crash happened on Monday morning between Burpham and Ripley.

A Surrey Ambulance spokesman said: "We had a number of calls to say a lorry had crashed through the central barrier and overturned.

Crash investigators

"It is a very serious accident."

He said the three people died at the scene of the accident which happened just after 1100 GMT at the Potter's Lane junction.

A police spokeswoman said they were looking at the possibility the heavy goods vehicle was travelling on the south bound carriageway and crossed over the central reservation.

The road was closed in both directions, covering stretches between Guildford and the junction with the M25, for crash investigators to examine the scene.

The injured people were taken to the Royal Surrey County Hospital in Guildford.

A hospital spokeswoman said the extent of their injuries was not known.
