Youths throw stone at car driver
Motorway traffic
The driver kept control of his vehicle after the stone was thrown
A man has escaped injury after a stone was dropped onto his car windscreen as he drove under a motorway bridge.

The motorist was driving northbound on the M23 near Nutfield, in Surrey, on Monday evening when he noticed youths standing on the A25 bridge.

Surrey Police said the stone hit his car as he was about to pass under the bridge, cracking the glass.

Officers described it as a "mindless act" and said the offenders had shown "a complete disregard for life".

Pc Martin Henderson said: "This particular bridge is one of the highest motorway bridges in the country and from that height the driver would have almost certainly been seriously injured, if not killed by the impact.

"Thankfully the driver was able to keep control of the vehicle but the distraction could have easily caused him to lose control and collide with another vehicle on the busy motorway."

Police carried out a search of the area, but there was no trace of the offenders.

Any witnesses who were driving on the A25 at about 1920 GMT on Monday are urged to contact police.
