Police in Hastings stopped 44 vehicles in Operation Chipmunk
Police stopped more than 44 vehicles in a crackdown on speeding, anti-social driving and dangerous vehicles.

Operation Chipmunk took place over a three-hour period in Old London Road and Queens Road, Hastings, on Wednesday night, Sussex Police said.

Action was taken against more than half the drivers stopped. One person was arrested for drink-driving and 16 were reported, mostly for speeding.

"The operation was very successful," said officer in charge, Sgt Alan Gates.

"Unfortunately, the number of people reported for offences highlights the need for this type of action.

"Without doubt we will run the operation again."

The crackdown was run jointly with Hastings Council and the Department for Transport Vehicle Inspectorate.
