Sussex Police appealed for witnesses to the crash
An elderly man who was hit by a police car responding to an emergency call has died in hospital from his injuries.

David Lloyd from Tredegar, Gwent, was crossing Grand Parade, Eastbourne, with his wife when the collision happened on 3 September.

The couple were taken to Eastbourne District Hospital where the 83-year-old man died on 16 September. His wife had minor injuries.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the crash.

The two officers in the car, which had its blue lights and sirens on, were unhurt.

The vehicle was on its way to Kingsmere Way in the East Sussex town, following reports of a fight involving 20 men.

Following the IPCC inquiry, which could take months, a decision will be made on whether a file should be sent to the Crown Prosecution Service.
