The business dealings of a 36-year-old man found shot dead at his Surrey home are being investigated in an attempt to establish who murdered him.
Daniel Blackett was found with gunshot wounds at his home in Sandhills Lane, Thorpe Green, Virginia Water, on Saturday and died later in hospital.
On Monday, police said they were looking at the father-of-two's business background in the hunt for his killer.
One line of inquiry is whether it could have been a contract killing.
Det Ch Insp Ray Marley, who is leading the investigation, said: "The offender will be a criminal with criminal connections.
"This is so out of the ordinary in the area I think you absolutely have to assume that."
Between 40 and 50 officers from Surrey Police are investigating the murder after Mr Blackett was found with several gunshot wounds at his Blissford Lodge home at about 2020 BST.
Police were alerted by the ambulance service and the father-of-two was taken to St Peter's Hospital in Chertsey but died.
Mr Blackett lived at the house with his partner and 11-year-old son and baby daughter, Surrey Police said.
A post-mortem examination carried out on Sunday morning confirmed Mr Blackett had been shot.
Mr Marley said "two-and-a-half" bullets had been recovered from his body, suggesting that the weapon used was likely to have been a converted handgun.
He added that although police believed that the killer was alone, officers were keeping an open mind on the possibility that others may have been involved.
Anyone who had business dealings with Mr Blackett is being urged to contact Surrey Police.
