Unseen sports photographs shown
Hy Money
Hy Money was the first female sport photographer in the UK
The UK's first female sports photographer is exhibiting previously unseen photographs of some of the most famous faces in sport.

Hy Money, from Bindley Heath, near East Grinstead, is showing unpublished photos of stars like Muhammad Ali, Martina Navratilova and Diego Maradona.

Ms Money, once described as the Emily Pankhurst of photography, began taking photos from the football stands.

She was the first woman photographer to be allowed on a football pitch.

'Just fabulous'

Ms Money was also acknowledged as the first woman sports photographer in Fleet Street.

Her photos have appeared in books, magazines and in the sports pages.

She said: "My way to get a picture in the papers is when everyone goes home from the football match I would go to the players lounge or press room where all the journalists are.

"I'd be the only photographer and that's where I got loads of photographs of people being interviewed and they would do all these expressions or the player who'd scored the goal would come out the shower with all these beads of sweat on his face.

"It was just fabulous."

The free exhibition runs until 17 September at Wealden House in East Grinstead.
