Post Office delivers village address
Village sign
Lindfield has been without its own postal identity for 20 years
Residents in the Sussex village of Lindfield have successfully persuaded the Royal Mail to change their postal address.

After decades of confusion, the village name will be included in the post office database for the first time.

Although post from people who already know a recipients' full address has always been delivered to the village, the problems arise when someone who does not know the village wants to look up an address.

If they use the post office database to search for a Lindfield address, the result has not included the village's name.

Lost in the post

Residents claim this has meant deliveries and even emergency vehicles have got lost in the nearest postal town of Haywards Heath.

After 20 years of campaigning, Royal Mail says it will be writing to residents and as long as there are no objections, the postal address will change.

The village action committee is now calling for a code of practice to correct any postal errors and ensure no other communities have to go through what Lindfield has suffered.
