South Yorkshire Pc in court over fatal patrol car crash

A police officer has appeared before magistrates accused of causing death by dangerous driving after his patrol car hit a pedestrian.

Pc David Allen's patrol car hit Ian Hambrey, 49, on Doncaster Road, Denaby Main, Doncaster, last March.

Mr Allen, 34, gave his address as South Yorkshire Police Operations Complex in Tinsley, Sheffield, during a brief appearance at Leeds Magistrates' Court.

He was granted unconditional bail to appear at Leeds Crown Court on Tuesday.

Mr Allen was charged following an investigation by the Independent Police Complaints Commission (IPCC).

The IPCC said a second police officer who was a passenger in the vehicle with Mr Allen would not face criminal charges.
