Jobs go as haulage company closes

A Barnsley haulage company is to close with the loss of 114 jobs after a rescue attempt collapsed.

JDF Logistics, based in Dodworth, went into administration last month after experiencing cashflow problems which it said were due to the economic downturn.

Turnover had fallen by almost 20% after the loss of three major customers.

Joint administrators Nick Reed and Steve Ellis, who are partners at PricewaterhouseCoopers, said the company would close by early December.

A statement from PricewaterhouseCoopers said: "The administrators were negotiating the sale of the business, but the deal fell through on Friday 6 November.

"The business is now being wound down and closed, which will take up to three weeks and the staff are being laid off as their roles become redundant."
