Murder probe as fire victim dies

Timothy Darby
Police want to trace anyone who took pictures of the fire

A murder investigation has started after the death of a man who was injured in a suspected Bonfire Night arson attack at a Sheffield taxi firm.

Timothy Darby died in a specialist burns unit on Thursday morning - a week after the fire in a first-floor office at Advanced Taxis in Abbeydale Road.

Police said the 37-year-old had been found "engulfed in flames".

A police spokesman said: "We believe the fire was started deliberately and this is now a murder investigation."

Mr Darby, of Langsett Road, Sheffield, had been in a critical condition at Wakefield's Pinderfields Hospital since the fire at about 2330 GMT last Thursday.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place later.

Det Supt Colin Fisher says has no idea how the victim came to be on the premises

Police are investigating how Mr Darby came to be on the premises of Advanced Taxis.

Det Supt Colin Fisher, who is leading the investigation, said: "We renew our appeal to anyone with information about this fire.

"I know there were potential witnesses on Abbeydale Road around the time of the fire and would urge anyone who was there to call the police.

"I am particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have recorded images on mobile telephones."
