Super surgery designs displayed

Designs for a new £8m super surgery in Doncaster are to go on public display.

The NHS wants to build the five-storey health centre on the site of the current Trades and Labour Club on St Sepulchre Gate West.

The surgery will be open every day of the year and will provide a permanent home for the town's health centre currently based in a temporary site.

Plans will be on display at the bottom of Printing Office Street on Friday from 1200 BST to 1700 BST.

Annette Laban, chief executive of NHS Doncaster, said: "This is set to be a landmark development, providing about 2,500 metres of space on five floors, all architecturally designed to complement all the new Frenchgate and Interchange buildings."

A planning application for the centre will be submitted to Doncaster Council later this month.

If successful, construction is expected to start next year and be finished in 2011.
