Woman injured in city park attack

A 21-year-old woman is recovering after she was attacked by a masked man in a Sheffield park.

The woman was confronted by the man as she walked through the city's Firth Park, police said.

The man, who was wearing a balaclava, threatened her with a weapon and attacked her, before becoming startled and running off.

The woman suffered a fractured cheekbone in the assault, and was said to be "badly shaken" by the incident.

The woman was attacked at about 0900 BST on Friday, shortly after she entered the park at the corner of Granby Road and Vivian Road.

Detective Inspector Phil Etheridge of South Yorkshire Police said such attacks were rare, and appealed for anyone with information to contact police.
