Investigation into town hall fire

More than 35 firefighters have tackled a blaze at the former town hall in Barnsley, South Yorkshire.

Crews were called to the building in Brierley, which is empty and boarded up, just after 0730 GMT on Monday.

The fire started on the ground floor and spread to the first floor. Firefighters remained at the scene to make sure the building was safe.

South Yorkshire Fire Service said the cause of the blaze was being investigated. No one was injured.
