Firefighters tackle school blaze

Firefighters are spending a second day at a former school in South Yorkshire which was destroyed by fire.

The seven buildings at the disused Edlington Comprehensive school on Tait Avenue in Doncaster were gutted in the blaze which started on Monday morning.

About 10 firefighters remain there to damp down and assess site safety as police investigate the cause.

The new school buildings will open to pupils on Thursday as planned, Doncaster Council has confirmed.

Residents who were told to leave their homes on a nearby housing estate on Monday have now returned.
