Third arrest in fatal arson probe

Scene of house fire
The two people who survived managed to escape through windows

A third person has been arrested over the murder of two people in an arson attack at a house in Sheffield.

Police said two people arrested on Friday night remained in custody. The third arrest was made late on Saturday.

Another two people who managed to escape from the house on Albert Road by climbing through windows remain critically ill in hospital.

Police said the victims could not yet be identified because not all family members had been informed.

About 25 firefighters were sent to the mid-terrace property, which was well alight on their arrival.

A spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said about five crews were sent to the scene after they were alerted at about 2000 GMT.

Albert Road was closed for several hours while forensic investigations were carried out.

A police spokeswoman said: "Forensic inquiries continue at the address, as do house to house inquiries.

"The next of kin of all the victims have still not been located so we still cannot name any of the victims at this time."
