Girl killed crossing road named

A 12-year old girl who died when she was hit by a car as she crossed a road in South Yorkshire has been named.

Megan Hennessey was crossing at the junction of Alexandra Street and King Edward Road in Thorne when she was hit by a Peugeot 306 car on Thursday.

Her sister Sophie, 16, suffered serious head and internal injuries and remains in Sheffield Children's Hospital.

The girls are from Owston Ferry in the Isle of Axholme. An 18-year-old man has been questioned and bailed.

He was released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
