Rail delays after train hits tree

Rail passengers in South Yorkshire are facing delays while emergency repairs are carried out on the line between Doncaster and Sheffield.

A train struck a tree late on Friday, causing damage to signalling equipment.

Northern Rail said engineers were working hard to reopen the line, but it was likely to remain closed until Sunday evening.

Services between Doncaster and Sheffield are travelling via Rotherham Central station.

Steve Butcher, from Northern Rail, said: "We are working with Network Rail to ensure any disruption caused is kept to an absolute minimum and we would like to apologise to all those affected."
