Girl, 13, killed in road accident

A 13-year-old girl was killed when she was struck by a car when she stepped out from behind an ice cream van.

The teenager, from Barnsley, was hit by a Vauxhall Combo van on Millhouses Street in Hoyland on Friday evening, police in South Yorkshire said.

Meanwhile a 41-year-old pedestrian suffered skull, leg and spinal injuries when he was hit by a car on Town Moor Avenue in Doncaster.

A driver was arrested on suspicion being over the alcohol limit.

And a 29-year-old man from Doncaster suffered head and pelvis injuries when he was hit by a car on Denaby Lane in Conisbrough in the early hours of Saturday.

Police said the driver of the vehicle did not stop at the scene.
