A lorry driver involved in a fatal collision with a police motorcyclist has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The police officer was killed in an accident involving a waste truck while on duty in Sheffield on Friday.

Accident investigators spent much of Friday afternoon at the scene of the crash in Prince of Wales Road, which was closed for several hours.

The 31-year-old lorry driver is being questioned at a station in the city.

South Yorkshire's Chief Constable Meredydd Hughes said the dead officer, who has not been named, was an "outgoing family man", who was well-known throughout the force.
