A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of a woman who was taken unconscious to a police station.

Michelle Greenwood, 20, of Knottingley, was carried by a man to Thorne police station in Doncaster "in a collapsed state" in the early hours of Saturday.

She died hours later at the Doncaster Royal Infirmary. Post-mortem tests showed she had been strangled.

Jason Marley, 28, of Church Road, Stainforth, near Doncaster, was remanded by Doncaster magistrates.

He will next appear before a judge at Sheffield Crown Court on 13 October.

Ms Greenwood died nine days before her daughter's second birthday, police said.

Her mother Ruby said: "Michelle was a beautiful, hard-working, thoughtful, loving 20-year-old woman and a wonderful and doting mum to a gorgeous little girl.

"She was full of life with dreams for both herself and her daughter. We all love her deeply, now and forever."
