Baby Harmony Grace is the couple's third daughter

A mother gave birth in the car park of a police station after being sent home by hospital staff who had told her she was not in labour.

Lynne Gillespie, 29, went to Doncaster Royal Infirmary sure she was about to give birth but was sent home after staff reassured her.

Hours later as she and her husband Alec tried to rush back they had to stop as the baby began to arrive.

Police and paramedics helped deliver Harmony Grace on the car's back seat.

The couple, from Carcroft, were forced to pull into the police station car park at Cusworth on Monday, 8 September with husband Alec, 43, running into the building shouting: "Come quick, my wife is giving birth".

Police staff Elaine Skelton and Hayley Henderson, along with Det Con Julian Dobson, ran to the couple's Vauxhall Corsa car to offer help.

Paramedics then arrived at the scene just as baby Harmony's head was visible.

The paramedics delivered the baby, the couple's third daughter, who weighed 8lb 3oz.

Mrs Gillespie is unhappy about her treatment by the hospital.

A spokesman for Doncaster Royal Infirmary said: "When she makes a complaint we will carry out a full investigation and let her know what our findings are and what lessons can be learned for the future."

The couple have since returned to the police station with cards and chocolates to thank staff for their help.
