A teenager has died when he was stabbed during a disturbance involving a group of people in Sheffield.

The 18-year-old was attacked in Rokeby Drive, Parson Cross, on Saturday night. The incident is being linked to a disturbance at a nearby house party.

A post-mortem revealed the victim died as a result of stab wounds to the chest.

Three youths, one aged 16 and two aged 17, are being questioned on suspicion of murder.

Part of the street remained cordoned off as police carried out a search of gardens and alleyways close to the murder scene.

Officers could be seen looking in hedges and bushes while others spoke to residents.

Postcode gangs

A group of tearful youths later arrived to place flowers at the scene.

One youth said a fight started in the street between rival gangs after a party celebrating a 16-year-old girl's birthday.

The 16-year-old, who did not want to be named, said the fight involved two rival Sheffield gangs.

The youth said about 40 people were involved in the fight, and some were carrying baseball bats and knives.

He added: "The lad [the victim] managed to walk off before he collapsed on the ground."
