Arson arrest over cylinder fire

A woman has been arrested in connection with a suspected arson attack which forced people to be evacuated from their homes in South Yorkshire.

Residents in about 25 properties were still out of their homes on Saturday after a van containing a gas cylinder caught fire on Friday afternon.

A 200m cordon remains in place on Hill Top, in Brierley, Barnsley.

About 15 firefighters are still at the scene to cool down the acetylene cylinder.

A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the van caught fire at about 1520 BST while parked at the side of a house.

The male owner was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.

One firefighter also received medical treatment for suspected mild heat exhaustion.

The 28-year-old woman is being questioned by police.
