Homes evacuated in cylinder alert

About a dozen homes have been evacuated after a van containing a gas cylinder caught fire in South Yorkshire.

A 200-metre cordon has been put in place on Hill Top, in the Brierley area of Barnsley.

The van caught fire while parked at the side of a house. The cause of the blaze is being investigated.

One firefighter has received medical treatment for suspected mild heat exhaustion, a South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said.

A section of Hill Top has been closed off while about 30 firefighters remain at the scene dampening down the acetylene cylinder to keep it cool.
