Two horses die in riding accident

Two horses have died and three female riders have been injured in an accident in Sheffield.

A 46-year-old woman was riding a horse through Grenoside Woods when it was "spooked" and bolted into the path of grey Saab on Stephen Lane.

The rider suffered serious leg injuries and her horse was killed.

Two other horses were startled and their female riders were thrown off. One of the horses had to be put down after breaking its leg.

South Yorkshire Police said the two riders, both 22 and from Sheffield, suffered minor injuries.

Stephen Lane was closed for about three hours after the accident happened on Friday.
