A man who was stabbed to death near his home was about to become a father for the second time, his family has said.

Ian Stewart, 26, died in hospital after the incident in New Street, Darfield, near Barnsley, on Sunday night.

He leaves a 10-month-old daughter, Kathleen Ann, and his family said his wife was expecting another child.

John Doran, 31, also of New Street, has been charged with Mr Stewart's murder and was remanded in custody at Barnsley Magistrates' court on Wednesday.

He is due to appear at Sheffield Crown Court next Wednesday.

A post-mortem examination showed Mr Stewart died of a single stab wound to the chest.

'No last goodbye'

His family said in a statement: "We are devastated at the death of Ian.

"For him to die so suddenly in such a tragic way has left us all shattered and unable to say a last goodbye.

"Ian was a loving husband, son, dad, dad-to-be, brother and uncle.

"He was a loving and caring person who was liked and respected by all who knew him.

"He will be deeply missed but never ever forgotten."
