The jury in the case of a man accused of shooting dead a youth of 16 in a Sheffield park has been dismissed after failing to reach a verdict.

Negus Nelson, 19, will face a retrial over the murder of Jonathan Matondo, who was shot dead in October 2007.

The jury at Sheffield Crown Court had earlier found Mr Nelson not guilty of attempting to murder Jonathan in a separate incident.

Jonathan was shot in the head in the Nottingham Cliff Park.

Gary Burrell, prosecuting, told the judge Mr Justice King there would be a retrial at a later date.

There was no application for bail and the judge remanded Mr Nelson, of Margate Drive, Sheffield, in custody.

Jonathan's mother Therese Mfuilu brought her son to England from the Democratic Republic of Congo when he was two years old. They lived in the Burngreave area of Sheffield.
