Protesters blockade army office
Anti-war protesters have blockaded an Army recruitment office in Sheffield.

The peaceful demonstration outside the Church Street Army branch marked the fourth anniversary of London's anti-war march.

Police said 15 people were involved in the protest and some activists bolted themselves to the Army office door.

Campaigners said they were raising awareness about the "false impression" of military life created by the Ministry of Defence to recruit people.

Joining the services is a life changing decision and is not taken lightly
MoD spokesman

A spokesman for the anti-war group, said: "The image of military life painted by the Army, RAF and Navy is scandalous."

But the MoD said it " avoids glamorising war" and those who take this view are "ill informed".

The MoD spokesman added: "Joining the services is a life changing decision and is not taken lightly.

"We refute any allegations along these lines. Anyone considering a career in the Armed Forces is presented with clear information and all aspects of service life are discussed in detail."

A local Army officer said the short protest, prevented people interested in joining the Armed Forces from entering the building.

The anti-war group, added: "Young men and women are being sent - often to death or life changing injury - to fight in unjust wars on basis of an advertising campaign which makes life as a soldier look like a computer game."

Police made no arrests during the protest.
