Gambler defies odds of 6,802 to 1

Alan Scott defied the odds to win the cash
A man predicted the outcome of dozens of football matches to scoop £7,000 from his £1 punt with a bookmaker.

Alan Scott, 44, of Oughtibridge in South Yorkshire, put the accumulator bet on games in the UK and abroad.

He beat odds of 6,802 to 1 when 31 results went in his favour and luckily cashed in before the final game, which had been postponed, went against him.

A William Hill spokeswoman said: "In 100 years or more this has never happened before."

'No skill'

Mr Scott said: " There's no skill at all, it's just pure luck.

"The bet itself, the football teams were from 11 different countries, so there was the Dutch league, the Spanish league, obviously the English and Scottish leagues.

"I thought, they'll win and they'll win and obviously it added up and it all came in."

He said the family had decided to book a holiday, carry on with renovations to their home and get some presents for the children."

Alan said it had been a bit nail-biting.

"I realised my final few games had come in but there was one open bet left on it which was Gretna against Morton from the previous Wednesday but that game had been cancelled because of a waterlogged pitch."

"On Monday I contacted William Hill and asked if I'd won. They did explain that the match was still effectively live and they were playing on Monday night.

"But I said I'd rather call it a non-runner because it was a rescheduled match and they agreed.

'No-brainer'

"They did give me the option of putting that money on the game and you could win £9,500, but it was a bit like Deal or No Deal, it was no brainer I had to take the money.

"So I took the money and ran, as fast as I could.

"It was a good job, because I'd have waved goodbye to the money and the wife would have killed me."

William Hill spokeswoman Lesley Hayes said the bet had been quite an eye-opener for the bookmaker.

""The odds were 6,802 to 1...and they all had to win.

"If one of them had lost, the whole money would be lost.

"In 100 years or more this has never happened (to us) before, it's absolutely amazing what he's done."
