Couple stabbed to death in house
Jane Wheatley and Gary Gardiner
Miss Wheatley is thought to have had a three-year-old son
A couple whose bodies were found at a house in Sheffield died from multiple stab wounds, a post mortem examination has revealed.

Police have now named the pair as Jane Elizabeth Ann Wheatley, 34, and Gary Philip Gardiner, 46.

They were found dead at Miss Wheatley's home in Wath Road, Nether Edge, on Monday night. Mr Gardiner also lived in Wath Road, at a different address.

A 51-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder remains in police custody.

'Very worrying'

Neighbours said Miss Wheatley had a three-year-old son with her ex-partner.

Neighbour Francis Canny, 70, said: "You never in your wildest dreams think that anything like this would happen.

"My wife is very upset about it. We've lived here for over 40 years, raised four kids here and it used to be a top-notch area at one time."

Jeanette Ellis, also 70, who has lived on the street behind Wath Road for 31 years, added: "It's usually pretty quiet around here. It's very worrying being so near to where I live, but you've just got to carry on."

Police have urged anyone with information about the deaths to come forward.
