Teenager killed by rock in quarry
A 13-year-old girl has died after a boulder hit her on the head when she fell into a quarry in South Yorkshire.

It is thought the girl was playing with friends when she fell into the quarry off Cemetery Road in Grimethorpe, Barnsley, on Wednesday night.

Emergency crews were called to the scene and found the girl under a rock in a ravine area. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the death was not being treated as suspicious.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "The inquiry is in its early stages but it's understood the girl had been playing with a group of friends.

"Police are not treating the girl's death as suspicious at this stage and will be liaising with the Health and Safety Executive."
