Increase in positive drug tests
More than half the number of people arrested in Rotherham have tested positive for heroin or crack cocaine.

South Yorkshire Police are pioneering a new system by immediately conducting drugs tests on those arrested for so-called trigger offences.

These offences include burglary, shoplifting, theft and begging.

Previously, police had to wait until a person was charged. The scheme started two months ago and results show 56% of those arrested tested positive.
