Sainsbury's closes flagship store
Supermarket store Sainsbury's is to close its flagship store at Sheffield's Meadowhall shopping centre, the company has announced.

The store, which opened in 1990 and employs 300 people, will close in July.

A larger, 20m store opens at the Crystal Peaks Centre in Mosborough, near Sheffield, in September.

A spokesman said workers from the existing Crystal Peaks store would transfer and the company would try and find redeployment for Meadowhall staff.

The two petrol stations at Meadowhall will continue to trade as ususal.

A company spokesman said the Meadowhall store was not suitable for customers who wanted to do their weekly shopping at Sainsbury's.
